Snow Birds

Some of our winter birds have made it back the last few days. We have seen Yellow Bellied Sapsuckers, Yellow Rumped Warblers, and Ruby Crowned Kinglets.

Goodbye Swifts

The last few swifts that were still coming back to roost every night finally left on the 18th. We hope they have a safe trip to Peru and to see them next spring.

Cooper's Hawks in the greenway

This summer we had a family of Cooper's Hawks in the greenway. They had two fledglings that we saw a heard daily for several months. At least one of the family is still in the greenway, saw it yesterday on a bikeride.

Flying Squirrel using nest boxes

Two of our nest boxes behind the fence have had previous nest material removed and new material put in. Do not know if it 2 different squirrels or 1.

Chimney Swift Update

Checked on the swift last Wednesday 7/2/2014 and saw on swift on the nest and eggshells at the bottom on the chimney. The swifts have been very quiet lately. Hope to hear the nestlings soon.

Chimney Swift Nest

We reinforced the raccoon guard on the chimney this afternoon. While up there we checked on the nest and saw 4 eggs.

Eastern Meadowlark

Saw an Eastern Meadowlark at the NCMA park singing from the top of a pine tree.
