Chimney Swifts

They are back. Wednesday 4/24 was the first night they roosted in our chimney. Possibly 3 of them, will count them coming in soon.

Yard Blooms 4/16

Chimney Swifts

The swifts arrived in the neighborhood 4/10. Have seen them flying over our house everyday since but none have taken residence in our chimney yet.

Hummingbirds

Ruby-Throated Hummingbirds have arrived. Saw the first one on 4/12 and saw at least 2 on 4/14.

Also saw the Clear-winged Hummingbird moth in the front yard phlox on4/12.

Spring

Everything is out at once this year.

Saw lots of dragonflies in the front yard yesterday.

House Wren arrived singing.

Pollen is still coating everything.

Clouds of pollen are everywhere right now.

A little late this year. Last year: March 22nd. Years before: April 5th.

Spring Migrants and Nesting Updates

Had the first spring migrants on 4/7: two Blue-gray Gnatcatchers.

This morning there were 2 Ovenbirds singing in the greenway. 

Pine Siskens are STILL HERE. Some are starting to sing.

The cardinals are nesting in the same holly bush they always start with every year.

Titmouse and Chickadees are checking out the nest boxes. 

The three crows are nesting nearby and visiting the backyard multiple times per day now.
