Sage in Bloom

Lyre-leaved Sage (Salvia lyrata) is in full bloom in the front yard.
Pretty weeds.

Cardinal Chicks

The cardinal nest near our front window, in the holly bush has produced three chicks. They must have hatched 2-3 days ago, their eyes are not even open yet. I am waiting for the chicks to fledge so I can continue with painting the house on that side :)

Random Spring Updates

All trees are in leaf out, seemed as though it happened overnight. Backyard is a sea of green!

A few days ago:

Today!:

The army caterpillars are out in full force.

There was a termite dispersal event near the shed, Sophie ate some of them (?).

Put up a fourth nest box. So far we have one chickadee family and one nuthatch family, other two are empty, though we have seen birds checking them out.

Vireos arrived yesterday, heard both red-eyed and yellow-throated.

Siskins and goldfinches still around.

And, swifts in the chimney roosting every night. Are they ours?

Brown headed nuthatch nest

Checked on the nest box today and found this. Hard to tell if any eggs are in there, as the eggs could be covered with nesting material until clutch is complete.

Swifts in the chimney!

We had 1 or possibly 2 swifts roost in the chimney last night. They may be the family from last year, or could be migrants passing through.
