Spring Ephemerals are up at Swift Creek

Spring Beauties and Trout Lilies were blooming in mass at Swift Creek today, 1 month early. Last year we saw them in mid March.

Nesting Season Begins?

Birds are singing and the Brown-headed Nuthatches were pecking away on the large stump in the greenway, like they do at the beginning of every nesting season.

Sky Dance at Mason Farm

Saw many American Woodcock males performing their sky dance at Mason Farm last night (1/7). At least 5 males peenting and dancing.

Also heard a pack of Coyotes howling and others answering at sunset. Heard at least 3 Barred Owls and saw many White-Throated Sparrows.

Upland chorus frogs were singing at Hemlock Bluffs yesterday.

First Real Freeze

Finally had our first real freeze: 25 degrees last night and 20 degrees tonight.
