Had our first snow thursday night. Was about a half inch of accumulation.

Landed with a huge flock of Goldfinches on Sunday 11/18/12.

Weymouth Woods-Sandhills Nature Preserve

Saw many Golden-crowned Kinglets and Red-breasted Nuthatches. First Hermit thrush of the year.

Fall Mushrooms

Red-Spotted Newt

Saw this on the White Oak greenway yesterday:

Red eft - terrestrial stage of the red-spotted newt.

New Yard Bird

Yard bird number 80: Red-Breasted Nuthatch

We have heard these birds in the greenway and surrounding areas for over a week. Saw them today at the feeder.

Barred Owl

We have a female Barred owl in the neighborhood again. Last time we heard one was about 3 years ago. The last few day we saw her in the greenway and we  heard her wake up last night.

Yard Birds: Migrant Addition

Had one last Ruby-throated Hummingbird on10/11.

Saw a Yellow-billed Cucko in the front yard on 10/8.

Yellow-bellied Sapsucker pair arrived on 10/13 and have stayed. Also saw a Golden-Crown Kinglet.

The first Yelllow-Rumped Warbler was seen 10/14. Also saw Blue-Headed Vireo.

Heard first White-Throated Sparrow singing 10/18.
